„MILA MAR ist universell phantastisch. Mit eigener Sprache, treibenden Rhythmen, orchestral-melancholisch inszeniert, schaffen sie einen unverwechselbaren Klang, der vermuten lässt, das Eismeer läge im Orient. Orientalische Synthesizer-Klänge, afrikanische Djembe’s, Streicher, Schlagzeug und der beeindruckende Vier-Oktaven-Gesang von Hachfeld erzählen archaische Geschichten – seelenhaft und ganz ohne verständliche Worte.

MILA MAR-Konzerte sind kraftvolle, fast spirituelle Ereignisse, bei denen Hachfeld sich mit den Zuschauern und Zuschauerinnen verbindet. Sie singt in ihrer eigenen Phantasiesprache, singt Joik, eine alte samische Gesangskunst, die sie im Norden Norwegens gelernt hat und wechselt dann in orientalische Kehlgesänge. 1994 wird MILA MAR in Göttingen gegründet, das gleichnamige erste Album erscheint 1997. Drei weitere Alben und mehrere Singles folgen, die Band spielt mehrere ausgedehnte Touren und Festivalauftritte, unter anderem spielen sie als Support-Act für Goethes Erben, Youssou N’Dour, Mari Boine & Band und Subway To Sally.

Ab 2004 wird es still um die Gruppe, auch wenn sie offiziell nie aufgelöst wird. 2015 melden sie sich in erweiterter Formation zurück und spielen mehrere Konzerte. In den darauffolgenden Jahren arbeiten sie an neuem Songmaterial, die EP „Haime“ erscheint 2018. Mit „Harar“ veröffentlichten MILA MAR ihr fünftes Studioalbum im Frühjahr 2020.

“MILA MAR is universally fantastic. With their own language, driving rhythms and orchestrally melancholic staging, they create a distinctive sound that evokes the Arctic Ocean in the Orient. Oriental synthesizer sounds, African djembes, strings, drums and Hachfeld’s impressive four-octave vocals tell archaic stories – soulful and entirely without comprehensible words.

MILA MAR concerts are powerful, almost spiritual events in which Hachfeld connects with the audience. She sings in her own invented language, performs joik, an ancient Sami vocal art she learned in northern Norway, and then transitions into oriental throat singing. MILA MAR was founded in Göttingen in 1994, and their self-titled debut album was released in 1997. Three more albums and several singles followed, and the band played extensive tours and festival appearances, including supporting acts for Goethes Erben, Youssou N’Dour, Mari Boine & Band and Subway To Sally.

The group went quiet in 2004, although they were never officially disbanded. In 2015, they returned with an expanded lineup and played several concerts. In the following years, they worked on new material, releasing the EP “Haime” in 2018. MILA MAR released their fifth studio album, “Harar,” in the spring of 2020.
